FOUR motorcycles have been seized and police are seeking information for up to two more following a steady stream of nuisance behaviour.

Glenroi residents complained of young people riding trail bikes on roads and through public areas including Glenroi Oval in a dangerous manner, without helmets and creating noise.

Canobolas Local Area Command crime manager Bruce Grassick said police were conscious of the problem, confiscating four bikes in total, three of them late last week.

“They’re all under the age of 18,” he said.

“The biggest concern is they are driving around recklessly on trail bikes and they’re not only a danger to themselves, they’re a danger to members of the public.”

Detective Inspector Grassick said police were working with the children and their families to stop the activity.

He anticipated there were “one or two” motorcycles still in circulation and urged the public to call Orange police on 6363 6399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they had information.

“A number of them are owned by the parties involved but we’re still trying to establish whether others were stolen, or how they came to be in their possession,” he said.

John Lord reported on social media he was almost “cleaned up” by one of the bikes on Maxwell Avenue, while Jean Norris said he noise kept her children awake at night.

Glenroi Community Group secretary Joe Maric applauded the work done by police so far.

“The kids need to realise that if this is going to happen, they’ll lose their bikes,” he said.

“There’s been complaints in the past and we’ve found the police are always quite responsive.”

Mr Maric believed further education was needed.
