Portelli’s two-year-old has drawn barrier 11 for the $2 million classic at the Gold Coast Turf Club and the former Towac Park trainer says his filly will be in the race thanks to the speed of the favourites drawn wider barriers.
“I hope so, that’s the key; get away cleanly, roll forward … the speed out wide again, from the favoured horses drawn outside her ... it’ll be a truly run race. The best horse will be left standing,” Portelli said.
Saturday’s run on the Gold Coast marks Secret Lady’s first trip, too, with the filly’s previous runs at either Rosehill or Randwick.
“She’s a very relaxed filly, perfect attitude that will take her a long way, particularly with travelling,” Portelli added.
Portelli said his shot, paying $21, won’t disappoint over the 1200m journey.
“She fights strong, and that’ll take her a long way (on Saturday),” he added.
