The reverse vending machine, arrived and was off-loaded at the North Orange Shopping Centre at 11pm on Sunday.
Knight Frank facilities manager Paul French, who is coordinating the installation in Orange is hopeful the Return and Earn facility will be operational by early next week.
“The rain has set us back a little because it’s hard to get excavators onto the grass when it’s wet,” Mr French said.
The excavator is needed to carefully dig a trench for a power supply for the Return and Earn facility, which will also require water nearby and internet services for communications and to allow refunds to go into people’s Pay Pal accounts.
The facility will reimburse people for recycled bottles but not all bottles will be accepted because of consistency requirements.
Among those that cannot be used are milk and juice containers of one litre of more, wine and spirit bottles, cordial containers or registered health tonics.
