The Cavaliers all-rounders put in the performance of the summer at Wade Park on Saturday, knocking out his second ton of the season with a stunning 102 in their 70-run win against CYMS.
He then backed it up – not that you need to back up a 102 – by taking four wickets, including the first two of the innings and that of top-scorer Mick Hannelly (69) on his way to 4-39 from eight overs.
“It was just one of those days where it all came together and I was able to play my shots,” Doherty said.
However he said the “huge effort” of skipper Matt Corben (47) was crucial.
“I couldn’t have done it without him,” Doherty said.
“We bat really well together and he played a huge role for us.
“He had something like 17 singles in a row. I was obviously hitting them pretty well and he was able to rotate the strike and let me bat.
“Obviously on the scorecard 100 looks better than 47 but he played a huge, huge role for us.”
Doherty and Corben put on a 148-run stand, allowing Cavs to make their way to a total of 6-218 off 50 overs.

Corben opened up alongside Luke Wilson (20) before his dismissal brought Doherty to the crease and the rest was history.
It wasn’t long after Corben was dismissed and number four Chris Brown was run out that Doherty brought up his ton, only to snick one through to the keeper a few balls later.
Despite fatigue and the heat, Doherty was able to turn out with the ball, but he also heaped praise on fellow wicket takers Brown (3-16 off 7.4) and debutant Ryan Kurtz (3-38 off 10).
“[Kurtz] was awesome, he was fantastic. He generated a lot more pressure and they just couldn’t get a hold of him,” Doherty said.
Kurtz pulled quite a few ticks out of his bag, bowling a few wrong-uns and tossing the ball up.
“Both of them [Kurtz and Brown] really deserved their wickets and they made sure there was a lot of dot-ball pressure which was really good,” Doherty said.
After hoping the Cavs would be able to “put it all together” for the first time this season, he was happy this was a “pretty good performance”.
Mick Hannelly was the leading scorer for CYMS with a 69 which held the CYMS order together as no-one else was able to pass 16 (aside from the sundries), while Angus Wilson took 2-43 from his 10 overs.
