The circa-1860 Old Cheeseman’s Creek Post Office Hotel on The Escort Way, 25 kilometres from Orange was once the site of a Cobb and Co horse changing station.
The property, Fernleigh, is on 1.7 hectares of land and includes the old hotel, an old timber shed and a far more modern three bedroom home.
McCormack Barber real estate agent Lisa Wettenhall said it was priced at $509,000.
Ms Wettenhall said that while the main house, built in 1980, was habitable, the old hotel/post office was rundown.
“It needs love,” she said.
“I would love to think that it could be restored but it would be a big job.”
Ms Wettenhall said it would suit people looking for land outside Orange.
“It would suit people people who want five acres out of town that is affordable.”
It has a special meaning for her as she said she grew up on a property opposite and can remember the old post office still operating as a telephone exchange in the 1970s.
“I used to be babysat there by [then owner] Mrs [Jessie] Allcorn when I was young,” she said.
The Allcorn family owned the property for about 100 years until it was sold four years ago.
