There will be six awards handed out on January 26, including the time-honoured gongs for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year, and Community Event of the Year.
There are also two new awards to be announced: the Local Legend award and the Business Philanthropy award.
The Local Legend award will recognise a person who has moulded the community with outstanding achievement, and the Business Philanthropy award will acknowledge a business that sought to promote the welfare of others through donations of money or services.
Orange mayor Reg Kidd encouraged people to nominate worthy people before the impending deadline.
“There’s hundreds of people out there in Orange who just go about their business helping others who deserve to be nominated,” Cr Kidd said.
“You might think they would be a little embarrassed by any public acknowledgement of their good deeds, but to that I say ‘do it anyway’.
“They deserve it.”
Nomination forms can be found on Orange City Council’s website or at the front counter at the Civic Centre building in Byng Street, and must be submitted no later than Friday, January 5.
The winners of each category will be announced on Australia Day at the annual celebration and ceremony in Cook Park.
