All 550 students were given a bag as part of the move, which principal Michael Croke said was linked to Woolworths, Coles and other major brands giving plastic bags the flick during 2018.
“The school is pretty environmentally friendly, so if we can do our bit for the cause and make a statement to our parents and our children that we’re looking after the environment,” Mr Croke said.
Mr Croke said the school gave each student a bag free of charge as part of “doing our bit for the cause.”
Mr Croke said all the bags had been sourced and produced locally, and said the reaction from parents and the community had been “fantastic”.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the re-usable bags were “a great idea”.
“I am so pleased to see a school take on such an initiative as it is the generation that will make a difference,” he said.
“I will be at the school in the new year to discuss other ideas they have.”
