Cr Romano raised the matter at last week’s council meeting, saying he had been approached by several elderly residents with concerns.
“They didn’t know it had ceased, so they’ve had this rubbish out on the front lawn for months,” he said.
“The rate rise is only $6.98 and it can be renegotiated.”
At the moment, residents have to pay $212 for an on-demand collection.
Deputy mayor Joanne McRae asked for consultation to be included the the Community Strategic Plan review because residents had also raised the issue of compostable bags and increasing the recycling service.
Councillor Jeff Whitton reminded councillors the service ended two years ago because people put their rubbish out at the wrong time, leading to mess on the streets for weeks.
He suggested conveniently located skip bins.
Councillors supported the idea and also to discuss it further in a briefing.
