DESPITE the significant time the government has had to prepare for the roll-out of the much anticipated container deposit scheme (CDS), December 1 arrived to expose the scheme as a monumental failure from the National/Liberal Government.

Since November, consumers across Regional NSW have been paying noticeably increased costs for their packaged drinks purchases which have been imposed on you to pay for this scheme.
As of December 1 there were no reverse vending machines announced for this electorate, and the Minister for Environment Gabrielle Upton remained mute despite the regional public outcry for failed delivery.
The nearest being Cowra or Wellington. I’m guessing that the 40,000 residents of Orange would have a few containers to dispose of.
I note the minister has since responded, albeit late out of the gate, by announcing a reverse vending machine being installed at Forbes and Peak Hill.
I fail to understand the reasoning by the Minister and her Government, but then that is most difficult when there is no information forthcoming.
Sadly there is a trend of this Government initiatives lacking consideration for Regional NSW and resulting in failure.
I was shocked to hear that the deposited containers will be stored in warehouses instead of being recycled as the public would expect.
Your hard-earned money that you are forking out to buy expensive drinks for your family this Christmas will be paying for warehouse storage, which no doubt some commercial landlord will benefit from in the process.
STADIUMS FOR SYDNEY-SIDERS
REGIONAL New South Wales has consistently been treated as the poor cousin by this Government; spending billions of tax payer dollars to refurbish functional and serviceable Sydney sports stadiums is gross mismanagement of this state’s assets.
I would go so far as to say that it is bordering on misconduct.
Regional New South Wales is screaming out for basic improvements to roads, rail, hospitals, education and services in the bush – and these decisions prove that the National/Liberal Government is out of touch and that their priorities are out of whack.
I will not be silent on this issue, and I will let Premier Gladys Berejiklian know exactly where I and Regional New South Wales stand on this issue.
I and my party are often referred to as the “Shooters”, but this Government ought to be so named as they repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot.
GATHER ‘ROUND THE BARBIE
ON Thursday, I hosted the 11th in a series of my ongoing ‘Meet and Greet’ events which I’ve hosted across the electorate.
I appreciated the recent rain, but I was relieved to see blue skies and sunshine as I was setting-up the barbecue in Robertson Park at Orange.
From 11am through to 3pm I met with 50 or more people who took the time to come down to introduce themselves and discuss issues concerning them and their community over a barbecue lunch.
I have found great benefit in making myself accessible in a relaxed atmosphere which allows anyone to approach me.
In doing so, I have met some fantastic people and discovered issues that require address.
I will continue to meet with the community, and wherever possible I will do my best to help you.
I encourage you to follow my Facebook page for notification of the next event I will host in the New Year.
