The McLachlan Suites complex would offer accommodation for 44 people for three months or more.

A development application [DA] has been lodged with Orange City Council for four connected buildings with outdoor communal areas behind a late 1800s brick house at 122-124 McLachlan Street.

The application states that the development would sit on 2005 square metres of land and provide parking for 14 cars and eight motorbikes and pushbikes.

“The maximum capacity of the development is 42 lodgers in 21 double rooms plus a manager’s room accommodating up to two people [total 44 people],” it said.

“Although it is expected that rooms will most commonly be occupied by a single person [22-30 persons in total].

“While four boarding houses are provided on the site, they will operate together under one Boarding House Plan of Management and house rules, and will be supervised by one resident manager.”

The DA said lodgers would be responsible for their own meals, laundry and cleaning of the rooms.

“The minimum period of stay for lodgers will be three months,” it said.

“Shared outdoor open space areas will be provided for each building, together with private courtyards for some of the rooms.”

The DA states that residents would be banned from drinking alcohol or playing music in the outside areas between 10pm and 10am.

“Recreation” would be banned between 10pm and 7am in the outdoor areas.

The application said the development was expected to attract medical and professional staff seeking short term accommodation.

The applicant, Greg Kings, was contacted for comment by the Central Western Daily.

The house on the property will be retained as a separate lot on a 460 square metre block, and be fenced off from the boarding house.

The DA is currently on public display at the council offices.

Public submissions can be lodged until 5pm on Friday December 22.

They will then be assessed by council officers to decide what further action to take.
