The year may be winding down but for Orange Ex-Services Tennis Club there’s still plenty to do.

On Thursday the ladies social tennis group held their yearly Christmas luncheon at the main club, 19 ladies attended and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Life member Margaret Johnston presented a bouquet of flowers, on behalf of the group, to fellow life member Helen Chapman, who volunteers every Thursday by running the morning’s tennis.

Margaret also presented roses to club patron Dolly Kjoller for her lifelong volunteer service.

Last Saturday night in the Moresby room of the same venue we held the yearly Christmas dinner and presentation of the Club Championship Trophies.

All awards were presented by the match committee trio of Brad, Chrissie and Kathy and assisted by special guest, Club Liason Officer Les McGaw.

After which the prestigious Max and Dolly Kjoller awards were announced.

The Dolly Kjoller trophy went to Eleanor Crane, who was awarded a scholarship to study at Averett University in Virginia.

Winner of the Max Kjoller trophy went to young and ambitious Bradley Penrose, who has worked tirelessly in his inaugural year as secretary.

There’s a committee meeting on Sunday, December 10, commencing at 12.30pm, in the clubhouse.

All apologies are to be directed to the secretary or any committee member. This will be our last meeting for the year, as there will be no meeting in January.

The first meeting for 2018 will be February 11.

Brad Campbell is on duty this Sunday at 1.30pm for social, last week’s winner of the free hit voucher was Alan Hubbard.

A Christmas barbeque will be held in the back yard on Sunday, December 17 around 12.30pm.

This will be a casual affair for any player who would like to attend, especially if they have missed out on the other functions. After this, will be the usual Mixed Social.

The Men’s Singles Comp was washed out last Sunday, but will go ahead this Sunday at 10am. This will be the last round of this popular Comp. Presentations to all winners will be announced, followed by lunch, supplied by the Tennis Club.

On Wednesday night this week, we held the Mixed American night comp. Numbers were down a little but players still enjoyed the tennis. Andy Cannon was declared the winner on 12 games.

Parents, don’t forget our Coaching Clinics for the kids during the holidays.

Darren and Alison’s Clinic from December 18-20 has already overflowed in numbers, but Stuart’s clinic on December 21-22 – from 9am-12pm, or 9am-3pm, has room.
