Portelli’s chestnut gelding has ventured to Towac Park three times now, for two wins and a second, the latest run a storming victory over 1000 metres against a class field.
The clear $2.60 pre-race favourite, Radetzky saluted by over a length from Don Ryan’s Ave and Allan McRae’s Bay of Modena.
The heavily backed Beechal came in from $11 down to just $5 and a strong jump form barrier six seemed to justify the hype, but Clint Lundholm’s shot faded, allowing Portelli’s young gelding to storm home.
“He sat on the outside and forced a really good kick onto the staight,” Miles said post race.
