Each year CWA members raise money by running the tea rooms at the Australian National Field Days and award a fourth-year apprentice with a prize.
The apprentice is chosen by Skillset Workforce.
Mr Duffy is a fourth-year fitter machinist at PJL Group, he said he’d be buying more tools with his $800 prize.
“It’s a big help, especially towards the end of the apprenticeship as I’ll be able to fill some gaps in the toolbox,” he said.
Group president Helen Donaldson the award was a way for the CWA to support young people after school.
BRAND UPDATE
The Manildra Group has updated its Healthy Baker flour range branding for the first time in 10 years.
The Healthy Baker range includes self-raising and plain plus flours with extra fibre.
“This year we’re celebrating a decade of The Healthy Baker flours by refreshing the look and feel of the product, reflecting a more contemporary baking range,” Manildra Group flour mill manager John Brunner said.
He said the flour was made from wheat grown in the Central West.
It’s also free from genetic modification.
DOUBLE DELIGHT
Nadia Murray from Country Designs and Jade Adams from Charlie and Co have made the move from an online -only businesses and opened a shop in Millthorpe.
They’re just the latest people to find a home for their businesses in Pym Street after an artist and hairdresser also opened shop.
Mrs Murray said the move to open a shop was about creating a personal connection with customers.
She said while the online business had been a success, a shop meant people could get to know two people supporting their families by starting a small business.
At 5.30pm on Friday, December 1 – the two businesses will host a grand opening in their new shop with many stores in Millthorpe to open later for the event.
VILLAGE TO SAVE
Following a community meeting, Canowindra residents are being encouraged to deposit around $800,000 to help start a Bendigo Bank community branch.
“The first thing that we need to do is to secure the pledges of the local people,” committee chairwoman Cheryl Newsom said.
Pledge forms are available from the Canowindra newsagency and CKC Accountants.
