White Ribbon ambassador Gerald Power said all men should take a stand against violence against women but also speak up about what they don’t accept.
During the relay, women who have been killed by their former and current partners are display.
Mr Power said behind each of the names was a family, a history and a community.
“We need to provide support and guidance to perpetrators so they can get help to deal with their anger,” Mr Power said.
The treadmills will run for 24 hours and an extra treadmill has been arranged for people who want to help.
Funds raised during the relay will be split between Housing Plus and their push to construct a domestic violence crisis shelter and the White Ribbon campaign.
Member for Orange Phil Donato was among the first on the treadmill and said ending men’s violence against women was a priority for the entire community.
“It’s something very close to my heard having been a police prosecutor and representing thousands of domestic violence victims over 15 years,” Mr Donato said.
On Saturday, a family fun day from 8am boasts face painting, jumping castle, arts and crafts and live music before the event ends at midday.
