Despite setting a new high water mark for majors won in a calendar year, Orange two-handed star Jason Belmonte isn’t buying the greatest ever hype.

Belmonte claimed the World Series of Bowling on Monday, edging fellow two-handed trail blazer Jesper Svensson in a thrilling final.
It’s Belmonte’s third major title in 2017 after claiming the Babasol PBA Players Championship and the USBC Masters earlier in the year.
Overall, it’s the Orange gun’s ninth career major crown, which is just one off both all-time leaders Pete Weber and Earl Anthony, while his total titles tally now sits at 17.
Anthony though, has 43 career titles and Weber 37. While Walter Ray Williams Junior holds the all-time PBA title record with 47.
All three are hall of famers and Belmonte’s passage into that company is virtually assured, but anything beyond that, and certainly the greatest of all time tag, is far from the 34-year-old’s hands.
Belmonte believes longevity in the sport will be a telling factor in that debate.
“Earl Anthony and Walter Ray were competitive and dominant over decades. I may be right behind them in majors, but I'm still 30-something behind them in total tour titles,” he said.
Given Belmonte’s base is here in Australia with his family, being a force over a similar run of decades will be tough.
“I think in my mind it isn't about if I'm capable, it's about if I'm willing to spend enough time on tour to reach those kinds of milestones,” Belmonte added.
“Both Earl and Walter were on the tour for decades. I haven't completed my first decade yet, so it's unlikely that I see myself still traveling back and forth for the next 20-plus years.”
He said the third major win on Monday morning Australian Eastern Time, a feat no other bowler in the PBA has achieved, was still sinking in.
“Any time you're able to do what no other has done in the 60 years before has great significance to me,” he added.
“I'm so proud to have my name above all else with achievements like this.
“However, now the bar is set to one day win four majors in a year. Sounds crazy now, but winning three in a year sounded madness to me last year too.”
Belmonte will now don Australian colours at the World Championships in Vegas – an honour the Orange-based star always cherishes.
“Absolutely … wearing our country's colours is very exciting,” he said.
“Hoping the entire team and I can rally together and come home with some jewellery.
“I'm redirecting all available energy sources to this coming world champs. Then sleeping for three days straight when I'm done.”
The World Bowling Championships run from November 24 to December 4 at Vegas.
