About 60 people and 350 budgies will make their way to the Orange Showground on Saturday to see the best plumage in town.
Mid State Budgerigar Club member Lindsay Fardell, who has over 100 birds himself, said “it’s a good hobby”.
“It’s something you can do in your own backyard, and it’s relaxing,” he said.
“It’s a good way to meet people, too.”
Mr Fardell has 11 birds in the show, and is hoping three or four are a chance at winning a category.
While he will normally spend an hour and a half a day tending to the birds, Mr Fardell said they’re not expensive to keep.
Two judges will be coming from Sydney for the event, while competitors will bring anywhere from five to 30 birds each from as far as Dubbo and Canberra.
The show goes from 9am to 3pm on Saturday.
