Teresa Maria Mackay, 49, of Bell Place at Kelso, was given four two-year good behaviour bonds for using the stolen bank card to buy a packet of cigarettes from a petrol station, for buying a mobile phone package from another service station and being carried in a stolen car.
She was also given a two-year good behaviour bond for failing to appear in court on May 8, despite it being part of her bail requirement.
She was living in Orange at the time of the offences, which were committed in the presence of her adult son Grant Dennis Mackay on October 8 and 9 last year and he has also previously appeared in court on related charges.
In September, he was sentenced to six months’ jail from March 1 to August 31 for using a stolen bank card, which was taken during the break and enter at Eungella Place, to make six transactions at service stations totalling about $500.
Ms Mackay was represented in Orange Local Court on Monday by solicitor Nidal Abdi who said the matter has been “travelling for quite a bit” while negotiations took place.
However, Mr Abdi said there was an early plea of guilty to the charges she was sentenced for.
He said she hadn’t been in court for the previous four years but started using the drug ice after experiencing family tragedy.
She appeared in court via video link and Mr Abdi said she spent two periods in custody totalling about five- and-a-half months.
Magistrate David Day said Mackay was a “mature lady” who would keep herself out of court but said her record “goes back a long way” and the guilty plea entitled her to a 25 per cent sentence discount.
“There’s no planning involved is there?” Mr Day asked of the bank card fraud.
“Going to a service station, knowing full well that unless you are in a remote part of Australia there’s going to be CCTV, it’s real criminal genius isn’t it?”
