Orange police are calling on the community to help solve a violent attack at one of the city’s skate parks.

Between 7.30am and 8.30am on Monday, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed at Glenroi Oval skate park and his scooter was stolen.
Canobolas Local Area Command’s Chief Inspector Peter Atkins said the teenager was riding his scooter – a multi-coloured Prodigy S5 Envy model – when he was approached by another male.
The 15-year-old said the male grabbed him and in an altercation stabbed the teenager with a small knife in the chest.
Police said the wound was not “life-threatening”.
The male offender has been described of Aboriginal appearance and was clean shaven, he was wearing shorts and a singlet top as well as orange shoes.
He was last seen riding the teenager’s scooter towards the hockey fields on Moad Street.
Chief Inspector Atkins said the 15-year-old went to a friend’s house who drove him to Orange hospital.
At Orange hospital his puncture wound was sutured and was later discharged.
“We’re calling on anyone who was around the skate park at the time to get in contact with us or Crime Stoppers,” Chief Inspector Atkins said.
Glenroi Community Group secretary Joe Maric said residents had told the group they wanted to see improved security at the skate park.
“Parents have told us they refuse to take their kids there,” Mr Maric said.
“It’s too far away from the road and too far from residents.
“We’re really sorry to hear something terrible has happened, we need to do everything we can to prevent it happening again.”
Mr Maric said the group wanted to see the skate park moved closer to Garema Road to take advantage of CCTV cameras attached to the Glenroi Community Centre and the neighbourhood watch.
He said location of the Moulder Street skate park was successful partly because of nearby residents and businesses keeping a close eye on users, as well as emergency services have easy access to it.
“Police do their patrols and if they see anything happening, they can pull quickly,” Mr Maric said.
“At Glenroi Oval, they have to visit several streets to get a close view and then there’s another 150 metres for emergency services to reach the skate park.”
Mr Maric said moving the skate park closer to Garema Road would see improved security but also more parents bringing their children thanks to community centre’s car park.
