One of the features of the school is a weeping birch tree. Students Sam Kingham and Will Beetson, helped by Millthorpe Village Committee member Sam Yeates and the school’s caretaker Graeme Smith, planted another one next to it.
The highlight of the day was cracking open a time capsule buried at the school in 1967.
The contents included some 1950s copper pennies, a ten shilling note, several letters and notes from students, and a copy of the Central Western Daily from November 17, 1967.
Merle Nicholls and Rene Chapman were students at the school in the late 1930s and were invited to cut a cake baked by kindergarten students Lucinda Cornally and Lucas Woods.
A picture book called ‘Millthorpe in Words and Pictures’ was also launched on the day, featuring many images taken by former students of the school.
