Ryan Thomas, 19, of Torpy Street, was treated at Orange Health Service for a stab wound to his armpit that he received at about 3pm on August 24.
The victim, who stabbed him , was arrested at the scene but Thomas was also arrested when he attended Orange Police Station on September 22.
On Wednesday, magistrate Anthony Spence gave Thomas a 12-month good behaviour bond for common assault.
Mr Spence also gave Thomas a 12-month good behaviour bond for entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offence.
A third offence of using a mobile phone to menace or harass earned him a conviction without further sentence but he had to pay a $100 surety that he would be of good behaviour for 12 months.
Thomas pleaded guilty to all three charges.
According to police facts Thomas and the victim had been friends, and lived together for a short time, but the victim had a falling out with Thomas and another mutual friend on August 19.
On August 24, Thomas sent the victim a text message on behalf of the mutual friend asking for items she had lent him or left at his home to be returned.
However, the victim wasn’t responsive and when the two former friends arrived at his house at 2.15pm and the victim didn’t answer the door, Thomas sent more text messages and the victim phoned police.
A swap was negotiated but police said Thomas entered the victim’s home and repeatedly punched him and ignored the victim’s shouts for him to get out.
Police said the victim picked up a serrated kitchen knife and yelled at Thomas to get out again.
Thomas backed away but paused at the front door where he was stabbed, then collapsed outside and the victim phoned police.
The victim, who has also been charged with assault, is to appear in Orange Local Court later this month.
