Douglas Anthony Dalzell, 32, of Park Street, Millthorpe, was fined in Orange Local Court on Monday for not getting seven hours continuous rest in a 24-hour period.
However, his Solicitor Neil Jones said his client had taken numerous breaks during the 24-hour period that were longer than the minimum times required.
Mr Jones also said before the 24-hour period started Dalzell had not driven since June 15 and the five continuous hours that were included in the time-frame were part of a longer 14-hour break.
The maximum fine Dalzell could have faced was $16,000.
