Group of scooters spotted in shopping mall

HAZARD: Scooters are immensely popular at skate parks... and malls.

THEY took off in the early 2000s and have been hugely popular ever since, but scooters are becoming a hazard for those doing their weekend shopping.

One reader was in one of Orange’s main arcades on Sunday when she was passed by a number of youngsters, without parental supervision, riding through the mall on their scooters.

The group did not ride in single file and made little effort to slow down to pass the shopper.

The NSW Centre for Road Safety does not address the use of scooters in malls, only saying they can be ridden on footpaths unless signs specifically ban them, but riders must keep left, give way to pedestrians and slow down or dismount in busy areas.

This reader would argue they should stay in skate parks.
