The business was one of two closed by a fire in November last year and owner Lisa Nguyen said she and staff were keen to get back to work.
“We’re very excited, we can’t wait, we’ve been counting every day,” Ms Nguyen said.
She said many customers had been asking when Orange Bakehouse was due to return.
Two bakers and one pastry chef started work at 1am on Tuesday, creating cakes, breads, pastrys and the popular salad rolls.
Ms Nguyen said there are plans to add extra staff.
ARTHUR’S COFFEE
Arthur’s Cafe has opened Endsleigh Avenue.
Rick Armstrong and Naomi Wicks are behind the cafe, after working at the former Endsleigh Cafe they’ve taken on a new lease.
Mr Armstrong said they were keen to re-open the cafe are looking to serve miners, tradesmen and businessmen heading to work early in the morning.
They’ve brought Ona coffee to the city and will focus on quick food like salads, winter soups, cakes, wraps and toasted sandwiches.
“Ona have a strong community streak and it’s great coffee,” Mr Armstrong said.
PACKED OUT
Months of anticipation came to an end when Elwoods Eatery by Smoking Brothers Catering opened in the former Occidental Hotel.
The new location has room for functions with up to 40 people, a beer garden as well as a separate kitchen for catering.
It has five times the capacity as the eatery’s previous location and have already been booked out at night.
“We’re absolutely blown away by the following we have, we can’t thank our supporters enough,” Chef Ben Allcock said.
FUTURE CAREERS
School leavers and job seekers have until October 25 to apply for one of 22 apprenticeships offered through SkillSet Workforce.
Last Wednesday, SkillSet held an information night with 130 people attending to learn more from host businesses and TAFE NSW.
“Getting an apprenticeship like these is really the first step into a very rewarding and worthwhile trade career,” SkillSet Workforce manager Jane McWilliam said.
The apprenticeships are available with SkillSet’s partners PJL Group, Orange City Council and Hort Enterprises.
Apprentices include boiler-making, fitter machining, auto electrical, heavy vehicle automotive, electrical, green-keeping and horticulture and are located at Orange, Dubbo, Cobar and West Wyalong.
