The annual Bowdens Silver Mudgee Rugby Sevens has been run and won for 2017 with clubs from across the state converging on Glen Willow on Saturday.

Sydney University collected the first of the day’s prizes in the women’s competition, defeating fellow city dwellers Waverley 26 to nil.

​While in the men’s competition NSW Iconz Rugby – a NSW development organisation designed to to provide a platform for rugby players to take control of their future – scored two of the day’s trophies.

The Icon 1 side took out the day’s main event, soundly beating West Harbour 33 to 12 in the cup final.

Prior to that their Icon 2 team took out the Mullet Shield after downing the Deadwood Timberwolves 28 to 10.

Although Deadwood Rugby Club – who are regular participants in the annual event – didn’t leave the ground empty handed, after their other side defeated the Cornwallis Crusaders 20 to nil to claim the plate.

Next year the Mudgee Sevens will celebrate three decades, having become a top Country Rugby event in that time.
