“It’s non-stop action, once the rodeo starts, there’s always something happening,” organiser Joy Wilson said.
Two of the major differences for this year’s event include a live band and a bar operated by the Hawks Rugby League Club in a restricted area.
As well as the action in the arena country rock band Freewheelin’ fronted by singer Holly Wilson, will perform until late.
“It’s a family-friendly, party atmosphere and with the band, people can make a real night of it,” Mrs Wilson said.
Cowboys will be competing for trophies in the bull ride, saddle bronc and bareback categories plus barrel racing.
She said one of the major differences with the East to West Coast Rodeo Championships was the fact competitors can win trophies from each event on the night.
“Normally it takes a year to compete for the chance to win a buckle, but with the East to West Coast Championships, people can have a crack at winning a trophy buckle,” Mrs Wilson said.
“It’s the real deal from start to finish.”
Last year around 4000 people walked through the gates at the Orange Showgrounds for the rodeo, and Mrs Wilson said a similar number was expected this year.
Gates at the Orange Showground open at 4pm with the rodeo to begin at 6pm, with family passes available.
