The Inner Wheel Club of Orange has invited KINI Kenya chief executive officer Barbara Parkins to speak at the fashion parade about her experience of living among the Maasai people in Kenya and her support of educating children who cannot afford go to school.
The former Australian school teacher now cares for 14 orphans in her home, provides education for 50 children, sources medical help for people in her community, provides ambulance services, rescues girls from early forced marriages and helps orphaned children find the care of relatives.
Inner Wheel Club of Orange Judy Reppen said the club supports an international project every year and decided to make the most of Barbara Parkins’ visit to Orange.
“She’s in Australia doing talks for the project and she’s visiting a friend in Orange,” Mrs Reppen said.
“We decided to ask Fella Hamilton’s Kerrie King to support us by holding a fashion parade of her spring clothes.
“The old story is if you educate a girl you educate a family and all of us are women so we understand that.”
The Inner Wheel Club of Orange Minhi is also hosting a trivia night at the Gladstone Hotel at 7pm to raise fund’s for the school.
Kenna Hall will be decorated in an African theme for the fashion parade and fundraiser, which starts at 2pm on Saturday.
