Art lovers from all over the region, country and internationally have fallen in love with Jayes Gallery in Molong.
Libby and Hugh Oldham established a gallery in the village in 2000 to bring together the works of the many talented artists in the region. In 2006 they purchased a derelict building in Gidley Street, renovating to house the purpose built gallery.
“Back in 2000, there were no small galleries in the region,” Libby said. “We became the only gallery from Lithgow through to Dubbo.

“This was the perfect place to establish a gallery because there is a swell of artists and wonderful creativity. But times are definitely changing, the region is growing and with that comes diversity of community. And more little galleries popping up.”
Showcasing the work of emerging and established artists, Jayes Gallery is a drawcard for tourists. Incorporated into the gallery is a sculpture garden, cafe, and cellar door for Twisted Rivers Wine. It’s a one-stop-shop for daytrippers.
“All our cakes, biscuits sauces and jams are made on site,” Libby said. “You can enjoy delicious meals in the cafe like smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches or a truffle cabbage chowder with pan fried scallops. Or have a nice drop of Twisted River wine from the cellar door.”
Once a month the gallery hosts a music night celebrating classic albums, from Billy Joel to Sade, as visitors tuck into woodfired pizzas.
“People will certainly enjoy the drive to Molong, but they’ll love the destination,” Libby said.
