People of all ages are encouraged to pick up their camera or phone over the next few weeks to create a silent short film for the Orange based competition with entries closing on Friday, October 6.
Winning entrants will have to chance to win $1000 in prizes from The Complete Camera House, and will have the opportunity to be screened at a Silent Films and Orange Laneways event in mid October.
The competition has been founded by James Kendell from Small Acres Cyder with support from The Complete Camera House and Manning PR, who are all excited to see what is created.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for school holiday activity to storyboard a set of moving images, film them, edit them on iMovie, or a similar editing platform, and then submit the final video,” Mr Kendell said.
“The only limitations are that it has to be between one and two minutes, and the only sound can be music and sound effects, not talking.
“It’s amazing how a story can be told without any spoken narrative. We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.”
Mr Kendell said The Silent Films and Orange Laneways event was a huge success last year as a feature of the Orange Wine Festival.
He said the laneways event featured street food, a cider bar and popular silent films by Charlie Chaplin and Bustor Keaton.
“The location for the event is a secret until the week before and it literally pops up and then vanishes within six hours, giving everyone an opportunity to discover and explore a hidden area of Orange,” he said.
“This year we wanted to add a local element and encourage everyone to participate. We all have the ability to shoot and edit our very own short film thanks to smartphones and digital SLR cameras.
“This is a chance to explore our creativity as story tellers.”
The entries will be judged by representatives from Small Acres Cyder, The Complete Camera House and Manning PR, with finalists screened on Saturday, October 14.
