Year 6 teacher Romko Hordynsky has been writing and directing the schools musicals for about 30 years and this year was no different.
Along with writing the plot, Mr Hordynsky also created the musical score for the latest production, Slaves, set in Ancient Egypt.
This week, students performed in two matinee performances and at 7.30pm Thursday they are taking to the stage for a final performance at Orange Civic Theatre.
Year 6 student, Max Bloomfield played high priest Kemnebi in the musical.
“I played an evil high priest who becomes power hungry and then becomes Pharaoh in ancient Egypt,” Max said.
He said the two other lead roles included a slave named Mhkai and Queen Taniwi, a queen who enjoyed throwing slaves into the river, until her downfall in which she too becomes a slave.
“Everyone is a kind of slave to someone,” Max said of the overall theme of the musical.
“Even if you are a pharaoh you are a slave to the Gods or the power you desire.”
The 12-year-old said this is his second musical and all year 5 and 6 students are involved although there were auditions for the lead roles.
“Everyone is enjoying themselves,” Max said.
“There’s 63 speaking parts this year.”
Max also performed in Mr Hordynsky’s musical Howlin’ last year and said he plans to keep performing in musicals when he reaches high school.
