The event will combine modern scientific observation with Indigenous legends and astronomy in a casual evening under the night sky.
President of the Orange yet-to-be-built Planetarium Rod Somerville said indigenous culture was going to be a large part of the night.
“A large part of indigenous culture is the fabulous southern sky, which was always visable to them, and a lot of their stories relate to the skies,” he said.
“We’ll have people telling stories about the skies, and we’ll also have three telescopes to point at planets, star clusters and whatever else we can see.”
The event will also have food and music, and starts at 5.30 at CSU Orange’s Girinyalanha park, near carpark 3.
