Regulars were surprised to find the cafe closed, empty of all stock and most fittings and with a note on the door last week.
The note said the cafe had closed “due to unforseen circumstances that out of our control.”
It was operated by The Byng Street Group.
Owner Jeremy Norris said he could not comment on why the cafe had closed.
“It is a delicate matter,” he said.
Mr Norris said there were some issues to resolve before the cafe’s future was decided.
“We are trying to reopen it as quickly as possible.
“Hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later.”
A message was also posted on Facebook.
“The Endsleigh has been a wonderful part of the Byng Street Group over the past four years and we are extremely sad that this has happened,” it said.
