Haylee Kennedy, 10, helps dog obedience trainer Deb Coleman with her dog classes each weekend and after hearing about the RSPCA cupcake day fundraiser decided to get on board the initiative.
However, what started off as a small thing to help quickly escalated and Haylee and her mother Makita Kennedy found themselves spending hours in the kitchen baking and decorating cupcakes for fellow animal lovers.
Mrs Kennedy said initially the plan was to take some cupcakes to sell at Ms Coleman’s class but Haylee was soon receiving private orders.
“It got bigger than Ben Hur,” Mrs Kennedy said.
So far Haylee has made about 120 cupcakes in varying flavours with all proceeds going to the RSPCA and while the baking has been straightforward, it was the decorating that has been most time-consuming.
“I’m really happy because a lot of animals are getting saved now,” Haylee said.
