He was recording his new song, dedicated to his red-headed girlfriend, when he found out about the biggest gathering of redheads planned for Orange.
“It was pure luck and chance,” he said.
“I came out of the studio and I just happened to be on Facebook and there was something about the event.
“I got in contact with [event organiser] Rachael [Brooking].”
Leffler will play a full set of music at the Redheads Guinness World Record Attempt at Wade Park on September 30 – and feature his new song which will be released as a single the day before the Orange event.
“I’m marrying a Scottish lady who has got red hair.
“In Australia, redheads are always getting picked on but in Scotland it is more common.”
With lyrics like “I can’t help and I shouldn’t stare, but fallen for her auburn hair,” the non-redhead is set to be a hit among the throng of redheads at the event.
“I’ve got boring mousy brown hair but I might spray it red.” he said.
Leffler hails from the Sutherland Shire in Sydney and started playing guitar when he was 13.
Since then he said he had performed with total Aussie acts including Diesel, Ian Moss, Shannon Noll and Dragon.
Leffler will perform with Casey Donovan in October.
He has released his first EP record Run With The Wolves last year and has another planned.
The world record attempt for having the most redheads in one place will be a family fun day featuring entertainment, activities, food and drinks.
Actor and writer Stephen Hall will be the emcee.
AUBURN HAIR by JOEL LEFFLER
Did you know that?
I fell deep in love the very moment
That I met you girl
Did you feel it?
When i took your hand & I told you
Don’t ever let go
-
Don’t ever change if you don’t want to
Let’s leave this town just me and you
Her auburn hair’s flicking out through the window
As we make our escape in the getaway car
The sun’s beaming down on the dash, I should tell you
That I’ve fallen in love with the way you are
I can’t help it and I shouldn’t stare
But I’ve fallen for her auburn hair
-
I think I’ve said it
Maybe once or twice, maybe a thousand
But I’ll never stop
We’ll keep on driving,
Her hands on mine
As she sings to Paolo Nutini.
