The former Bathurst cricketer arrived at Orange on Tuesday for the Cricket NSW Country Blitz program well underdressed for a typically freezing September day in the colour city.
But the chilly conditions didn’t dampen the spirits of the primary school kids on deck at Jack Brabham Park to take part in the modified cricket format on offer at the blitz.
“For these school kids it’s about getting some exposure to some Sydney Thunder players and NSW players,” Copeland said.
“And being from this area, from Bathurst, it’s great for me to get back amongst it … although it is absolutely freezing out here. I wasn’t prepared for that.
“There’s lot’s of happy faces, hitting cricket balls, taking catches and it’s been great fun so far.”
Copeland said the modified version of cricket for juniors, which includes shorter boundaries and smaller pitches, should help create a fun environment for kids playing the game.
