Elizabeth Kwa took out the 14 years and under string solo, followed by Sally Carter in second and Emily L’Estrange in third, all three from Orange.
Sally also shone later in the afternoon, winning the open grades five and six strings solo from Olivia Small in second.
The string sections will resume on Tuesday with the primary school-aged string players.
Guitar and mandolin sections will continue into the evening, followed by the 25 years and over, before the competition moves to the Orange Function Centre for the band day on Wednesday where most of the area’s schools will compete.
