His 15th career title – made up of eight majors and seven other victories – Belmonte qualified for the step-ladder finals in first and ultimately claimed the winner’s trophy by 45 pins over the United States’ Cameron Weier.
Belmonte started the title match with two spares followed by a string of six strikes, building a lead the American couldn’t rein in over the back end of the clash.
“I will remember this title forever,” Belmonte said after the win, via his Facebook page.
“I am dedicating this win to two people. To my grandfather Rosario Caltabiano, who passed away last week … (and) to my grandmother Mary Caltabiano, who gave me her blessing to leave, so long as I would win.
“To all my family back home, it’s been a very emotional time for us all … and hopefully this win is giving you all something to smile about.”
I will remember this title forever.
- Jason Belmonte
Belmonte’s win at the Lucky Larsen Masters – a new event on the PBA-WBT schedule – was his second international tour title, along with 2012 Australian Masters.
Weier defeated Finland’s Jari Ratia, 226-194, in the semi-final match to progress to the decider against Belmonte.
