John Parsons Hotel Broker’s Greg Haines said the hotel sold on August 17 in Sydney for an amount which was “very close to the reserve”.
The hotel was advertised for sale in late July and generated strong interest.
Mr Haines said hotels in Orange were tightly held and would have been surprised if it hadn’t sold at auction.
“There were a number of interested purchasers, the man who was successful has a long association with the Central West.”
The Great Western Hotel boasts nine poker machines, 30 guest rooms, two commercial tenancies and was sold as a freehold property.
Mr Haines said the owner had family in Blayney and Mandurama and was keen to relocate back to Orange.
“He’s worked in hotels and casinos and will reconnect with family.”
It’s expected the new owner will start operating the hotel following a six-week settlement period.
