For all the hard work the Wallabies say they have been doing over the last month, it will count for nothing once they walk onto the turf of ANZ Stadium on Saturday evening.

This time last year, the Wallabies were blown off the park 42-8 in a match where they were unable to match the intensity of an All Blacks side with as much efficiency and skill of any side to tour Australia since the turn of the century.

Bookies are offering big odds for a Wallabies win and aside from a handful of diehard fans, few people are giving Michael Cheika's men any chance of upsetting Kieran Read and his mighty All Blacks team on what is tipped to be a windy evening in Homebush.

Australia last held the Bledisloe Cup in 2002, have not beaten the All Blacks in their last five Tests and have only tasted glory once from their last 16 starts against the men in black.

But do you think Hooper cares? Not one bit.

"What's wrong with a dream? What's wrong with a goal that everyone here wants to achieve? There's nothing wrong with it," Hooper said.

"That's what we should be aspiring to and wanting. Everyone in our change room has that mentality [we can win]. This group hasn't been through the 10 or 12 or however many years. This group has come together this year to do something.

"This group is hungry and it is extremely excited by the challenge."

Of the 15 Wallabies players who started in the Bledisloe Cup opener last year, only six are still there in the starting XV in what is largely a different side to the one that was smashed 12 months ago.

"We're completely focused on us and how we can get this new group, this new squad, in best possible shape for what is a very exciting year ahead," Hooper said. "You can channel Super Rugby, you can channel us [losing last year], you can channel whatever you want. We are about building what we have started out in June this year. It's working hard together, building the bonds and building the trust and feeling confident in how we play the game."

Even if the Wallabies are in the contest until the last 20 minutes, the All Blacks have shown in recent years their ability to put teams to the sword.

However, Australia boasts 350 caps off the bench, headlined by the likes of Tatafu Polota-Nau, Sekope Kepu and Rob Simmons, compared to 169 Tests of experience on the New Zealand bench.

"They are really good at that 60-minute mark with that continued pressure," Hooper said. "They know their roles really well and that's their bench included.

"Our bench hasn't seen the enthusiasm in the last couple of games that we probably would've liked to have seen, so we've picked a really strong bench. Some guys to really up the tempo, up the enthusiasm and some really nice skill set and experience on the bench to close out a game."
