That’s the view of Cr Scott Munro who launched his ticket at the Orange Regional Museum on Friday.
He will share preferences with Gerald Power who has an Indigenous ticket.
“Tourism is pretty big in Orange, but there is one thing we really don’t highlight and that’s the culture,” Cr Munro said.
“Orange has got a great opportunity to promote that with its approximately to Sydney.
“Rather than people going to Ayers Rock or the Northern Territory to see Aboriginal culture it could happen here.
“We need to appreciate and understand what cultural aspects can bring that extra thing to Orange.”
Cr Munro said the trail should be built near the planned mountain bike centre at Mount Canobolas.
“We’ve been looking at a push bike mountain bike trail up at the mountain for a long time and I feel the likes of Gerald can help us procure that if we gave that back to the Wiradjuri people to manage and if council had an input in to how it was done.
“We could have viewing platforms through the forest on the way down to Lake Canobolas with Aboriginal stories.
“We need to build cultural diversity and that’s one thing as mayor I’ll be really pushing that to happen.
Cr Munro said he hoped Mr Power was elected as our first Indigenous councillor.

“For the kids to see an Indigenous person doing [presentations] and public speaking out in the society, straight away the next generation says ‘I could do that one day’.
“I could be a councillor or a prime minister or whatever.”
Cr Munro also called for the proposed industrial park at the airport to be scrapped.
“I feel it’s in our water catchment. We have to think about the implications of ruining the aquifer there and the further implications about Suma Park Dam being contaminated.
“I’d like to direct our council, if I’m mayor, to think about the opportunities in Clergate and where we already have industrial areas to build them and make them stronger and keep Spring Hill pristine,” he said.
