The Manildra man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, touched the girl on her breast, over her clothes, at his home in November 2015, when she was 14.
“The victim was your granddaughter, that’s a breach of trust you will never ever be able to make up,” said magistrate Terry Lucas.
“As you are well aware, the most this jurisdiction [local court] can do is two years imprisonment, you pleaded guilty to this matter and as such you are entitled to a [25 per cent] discount.
“If you repeat this you will spend [your] remaining time in jail.”
The man was represented by barrister Bill Walsh who outlined the man’s health issues and said he had no similar matters on his criminal record but there were larceny and stealing matters between 1958 and 1995.
The Department of Public Prosecution said indecent assault was a serious offence but the man’s crime was at the low end of objective seriousness.
