The unwanted prize of the wooden spoon awaits the loser of the last-round clash at University Oval.
CSU coach Scott Hatch said his men are eager to end a disappointing 2017 with a positive conclusion.
“This week is more aimed towards the boys who are leaving. We’re losing a lot of our team at the end of the year. We want all the other boys to rally around them for their last game ever at the club,” he said.
“This is also a chance for our young guys to step up and show what they’ve got moving forward into next year. Hopefully we can put in a good performance to end our season.”
CSU came close to finding a win last time the two clubs met but they had to settle for a 22-all draw thanks to a late Wombats penalty goal.
Hatch wants a strong start to ensure this time the students don’t let the Wombats into the match.
“You can never underestimate the Wombats. I was there for a few years and I know that even when there’s nothing to play for they will never give up,” he said.
“I don’t want to see a score like 12-all. Hopefully we can put on some points early … because if it’s close then the older, smart heads in that Wombats team can find a way ahead.
“There’s plenty to play for on the day, not just for us but for the colts who have to win to ensure a spot in the finals.”
First grade kick-off at Bathurst is 3.15pm.
