With a number of exciting changes and initiatives already due to be introduced in the 2017-18 season, Orange District Junior Cricket Association (ODJCA) is in the process of accepting applications for one more, which is set to increase participation and assist development in a huge way.

Along with adopting Cricket Australia’s new formats and the introduction of an under 13s Sydney Thunder Girls’ League – the under 17s equivalent started last season – the ODJCA has also established a landmark Primary Schools Cricket Development Grant for the coming summer and beyond.
The association’s president Dave Cumming explained the grant, which makes $5,000 available to Orange and the region’s primary schools, is designed get those schools and their students involved with the ODJCA’s new and existing competitions by helping overcome any obstacles impacting participation.
“We are in a fortunate position whereby we have funds available due to the success of the (annual) Western NSW Junior Cricket Carnivals,” Cumming said.
“We are offering up to $10,000 over two years to help the schools participate in our junior competitions.
This is the next step to help ensure that no players are missing out and we hope that the schools will support us.

“I would hope that the $5,000 per year will be spread across a number of schools.
“The grant may be used for purchasing equipment, assisting in a school team’s registrations, paying for coaching and other cricket relations expenses.”
Every single primary school within the Orange district is invited to apply, Cumming explained, they simply need to identify the amount of funding they’d require and what project it would go toward.
“It could comprise a couple of items such as a new team cricket kit and their player registrations, or even the cost of getting transport for the team to the games on the weekend,” he explained.
“ODJCA has spent close to $40,000 over the past few years on new cricket pitches. We are in an enviable position with the quality of our cricket pitches and grounds, with Orange City Council being hugely supportive.
“This is the next step to help ensure that no players are missing out and we hope that the schools will support us.”
