The OrCam MyEye allows people to point out what they want to read on a page, and it then reads it to them.

Orange’s Matt Bryant has used one of the OrCam’s made by Quantum Reading Learning and Vision and spoke to people about its benefits at a seminar hosted by Vision Australia.

“Unless you’ve been blind or vision impaired I don’t think people understand the importance of independence,” Mr Bryant said.

He said there were a lot of text-to-speech devices available but was excited by the OrCam.

Mr Bryant said it had helped secure his job.

“If I was in a meeting, I’d have to go back into the office to the scanner if I was to read a document or vice versa,” he said.

“With this, it’s at your fingertips you can read it there and then, straight away.”
