I write to address a misconception in Mr Peter Snowden’s letter about the upcoming NRL match between the Rabbitohs and Dragons at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust is not responsible for the scheduling of NRL matches at Allianz Stadium and the SCG, or any other sports for that matter.
The NRL and its broadcast partners schedule all fixtures - this is true of any sport in Australia. Any potential venue’s input to scheduling is limited to whether or not a match can be hosted.
Mr Snowden is correct: a Friday 6pm match is not ideal timing for the SCG’s more than 3000 country members.
The Trust has advised the NRL that SCG matches should be played on Saturday or Sunday afternoons in tribute to the traditional match of the round at rugby league’s spiritual home.
The SCG has hosted more than 1100 first grade matches and it is the Trust’s preference that future games enable our loyal country members to attend.
