They’re the team Western NSW Mariners FC simply can’t find a way through.
The Magic continued their winning ways over the Western club in their men’s NSW Premier Leagues 3 clash at Proctor Park on Saturday night, the visitors leaving Bathurst with a 4-0 win to their name as they continue their charge for a top five spot.
The Mariners weren’t without their chances to get on the board but a youthful Magic side kept a clean sheet while finding the back of the net two times in each half.
“They were a bit off the pace at the start, I felt. Then, in my opinion, we started to drop our game to their level,” Mariners captain Adam Scimone said.
“I thought we weren’t as forceful in attack as we were in our matches against Hawkesbury and Fraser Park. I don’t think we caused them any headaches, which is disappointing because they had a lot of their first grade players out.
“They brought in a couple of young guys who did a good job for them.”
Little separated the teams over the opening half hour before the visitors struck in quick succession before the break.
Magic’s Nick Ioannides got behind the defence and sent in a cross, met by Marwan Amin to open the scoring.
Peter Voukidis’ header was deflected by the Mariners into their own goal to double the visitors’ advantage.
Gladesville goalkeeper Kyriakos Tohouroglou had to pull off a diving save shortly after the resumption of play to deny the Mariners’ Jaiden Culbert a reply goal.
After a series from strong efforts on goal from the Magic they were eventually able to find their third goal 10 minutes out from full-time.

Voukidis was on hand to head home a teammate’s blocked effort before Chris Tomaras extended the margin to four.
Scimone was quick to give credit to the Magic.
“The determination was the difference really. It’s a long trip for them and they had an undermanned side. Their young boys really stepped up for them, and might be making a claim for a spot in that first grade team,” he said.
“They’ve got a great backline and their goalkeeper is very experienced. Off the backbone of that solid defence their young boys took their chances when they got them.”
The task doesn’t get any easier for the Mariners next round when they prepare to face competition leaders Rydalmere Lions FC.
