Charles Sturt University students and staff are signing up for a new challenge that will help raise funds toward building a domestic violence crisis centre for women and children in Orange.
Organiser, student and CSU residential advisor Melanie Brash said students living on campus were running the CSU Orange Moveathlon.
She said participants set a goal of how many kilometres they would like to move over the two weeks, pick a physical activity to achieve it and raise funds from sponsors.
“They can reach their goal by running, walking, swimming, cycling or other physical activities,” she said.
“For example, my goal is 150 kilometres.”
Miss Brash said it was the first time they had organised the event and she expected 30 to 50 people would participate.
“Everyone is keen I think. The moving thing is motivating us,” she said.
Organisers are hoping to raise $1000 for the cause.
She said it was a worthy cause as there was no crisis community centre in Orange.
Miss Brash said the nearest safe refuge was in Bathurst, which created problems for people who needed to work or attend school in Orange.
