Barnstoneworth secured a win on Millthorpe’s home turf, Redmond Oval, to move into a share of the competition lead on 31 points, although the Tigers still boast a buffer of six in terms of goal difference.
The 3-0 victory is a hugely important one for the red and blacks, looking ahead.
Barnstoneworth and Millthorpe have been superb all through the 2017 over 35s season, and sit six points in front of third-placed Gladdy-A-Tahs and a further 12 in front of lowly Denley Moor as a result.
Barnstoneworth has played two more games than Millthorpe though, one of which the Tigers will make up on Sunday afternoon.
There’s six games remaining in the season for Barnstoneworth and the two it plays against Millthorpe look likely to decide the minor premiership.
The second is in the final round so if results allow, that clash on August 26 could be one of epic proportions.
The Tigers were missing a number of keys players on Saturday afternoon, which the red and blacks took full advantage of to slot three goals, and maintain a clean sheet.
Veteran Wes Miller found the back of the net once with a superb strike.
Chris Jacobs was the real star for the red and blacks though, nailing a brace to seal the 3-0 victory for his side.
Barnstoneworth and Millthorpe have shared the spoils in 2017, both sides have won two of their four encounters so far this year.
The clash at Millthorpe’s Redmond Oval was the only over 35s game played on the weekend.
Denley Moor forfeited its round 11 fixture to Gladdy-A-Tahs.
