People born in India have overtaken the Kiwis as Orange’s second biggest cultural group.

This week’s census results showed 377 people in Orange listed India as their birthplace, overtaking New Zealand [368] and only behind England [663].
In a show of how we are becoming more multicultural Orange residents listed 46 overseas countries of birth.
On Wednesday 18 people, born in India, Nigeria, Iraq, Thailand, China and Malaysia became Australian citizens at a ceremony in the Orange City Council chambers.
Nurse Catherine Neethu George said as both her children were born here she wanted to live here too.
She said there was a growing Indian community.
“I have noticed that more of them are coming here,” she said.
Lolli Redini restaurant chef Gigi George said he had been here for four years and was keen to become Australian.
Nurse Vidhu Ann George said after five years she loved living in Orange.
She said she was even getting used to the weather.
“When I started it was a bit hard,” she said.
