The man was spoken to after a car was seized from an address in Orange on Friday and forensically examined.
A police statement said the driver, 66, had been released “pending further inquiries.
“Crash investigators are continuing to appeal for any person with information about the crash to come forward,” it said.
Two weeks earlier police released a request for anyone with information about a blue car to come forward.
“Police would like to speak with the driver of a light blue metallic older style sedan that was travelling east on Summer Street or in the Orange CBD between 10.15pm and 10.30pm on Sunday 28 May.”
Officers also appealed for any business owners that had CCTV operating along Summer Street, or in the CBD, at the time to contact them.
The victim, a 36-year-old from Taree, whose name has not been released, left a nearby motel before she was struck by a vehicle about 10.20pm.
The woman was located at the side of the road by a passing motorist who contacted police.
When officers arrived they found the woman’s body.
A report is now being prepared for the Coroner.
The incident is being investigated by the Central West Crash Investigation Unit.
