Council voted last Thursday to support the development application that would bring valuable medical services to the growing residential region.
The applicant, Orange North Pty Ltd, said the medical centre would be based at 30 Telopea Way, near the North Orange shopping centre.
Under the proposal the company would build the nine single storey and detached houses before building the medical centre.
The report submitted to council said the medical centre would be a single storey building of about 520 square metres.
“The medical centre will comprise a reception/waiting area, six consulting rooms, three procedure rooms and a nurse’s station,” it said.
“The proposed medical centre will [face] Telopea Way.
“A car park containing 18 car spaces will be provided to the south of the building.”
The application said the proposed hours of operation would be from 7am-7pm on Monday-Friday and 8am-6pm on weekends and public holidays.
The nine houses will have three or four bedrooms, two bathrooms each and an attached double garage.
Two of them will front Telopea Way alongside the medical centre while the others will be behind them.
A sign at the property announces that the medical centre might be operating late this year.
It also states that medical services that might be provided there included a doctor, a dentist, a chiropracter and a dietitian/nutritionist.
Other services including naturopathy and osteopathy could be offered.
The Central Western Daily has been unable to contact the applicant.
Chair of the council’s employment and economic development policy committee Cr Jeff Whitton said the medical centre would give north Orange residents an important facility close to home.
“We do need to provide business close to the urban areas,” he said.
“It’s about providing quick services and close services in a small facet.”
“That area of Orange to the north has been expanding very rapidly.
“I think having a GP and clinical services would be applauded by the people of the area,” he said.
Cr Whitton said developing the north Orange commercial area had not taken away business from the CBD.
“It hasn’t impacted the CBD by having a facility like that,” he said.
